Homeowners usually discover this question a week before the roof crew arrives. Here is the order things should happen in.
Three exist. The original installer, if they are still in business and still respond, which in Central Florida is often not the case. The roofing contractor, which is cheapest and carries the warranty and insurance problems covered on our roofers page. Or a solar service specialist, which is what we are.
Line up the solar removal before you finalize the roof date, not after. Removal is typically a single day and should land immediately before the roofer starts, so the array is not sitting off the roof longer than it has to. Reinstallation follows within a day of the new roof being finished.
Baseline production readings and a full photo set. Then the array comes off, tagged by position, connectors capped, rails and hardware bagged with it. Everything is staged where you choose on your property, off the ground and covered. Permitted electrical work is completed through our licensed partner, so you keep one point of contact from the first photo to the final reading.
Your roofing contractor's start date, roughly how many panels you have, the inverter brand if you know it, and a spot in mind for staging: a carport, covered patio or garage works. If your roof job is an insurance claim, tell us, because the documentation matters to your adjuster.

If your system is leased or under a PPA, check with the lease company before any work, because some agreements specify who may handle the equipment. On an owned system with a loan, it is your call.
