If you have solar on your roof and Sunnova was the name on your paperwork, you probably got a letter, saw a headline, or noticed that nobody answers the service line anymore. Here is the short version.

The honest split
On a lease or PPA you are not paying for panels. You are paying for power. That is the whole deal. So when production drops, you keep paying the same bill for less electricity, and you make up the difference on your utility bill instead.
Our climate is rough on production in ways that do not show up in a spreadsheet written in Houston. Summer pollen and Saharan dust settle in a film. Afternoon storms leave mineral spotting that dries in minutes at 95 degrees. Lovebug season leaves residue that bakes on. Roof runoff stains the bottom edge of every row. None of that breaks a panel, which is exactly the problem: nothing throws an error, the system just quietly makes less.
When there was a real production guarantee and a responsive service department, that was somebody else's problem to catch. Right now, in a lot of these accounts, it is nobody's problem. It is just yours.
A Sunnova subsidiary filed for Chapter 11 protection on June 5, 2025, and the parent company filed on June 9, 2025, reporting assets and liabilities in the billions and citing heavy debt and falling demand. Through the second half of 2025 the company sold off its business in pieces through the bankruptcy process.
Solaris Assets LLC completed an acquisition of the company in September 2025, and the residential contract portfolio moved to new ownership with a separate management company handling day-to-day servicing. The practical effect for homeowners was a change in who to call, who honors what, and how fast anything happens.

We are not lawyers and we are not going to tell you what to do about your contract. What we do is get on the roof and put the truth on paper, so that when you do talk to somebody, you are holding evidence instead of a feeling.

Questions we get asked
That is a legal question about a contract you signed, and we are not the right people to answer it. What we will say is this: be very careful with any company that leads with getting you out of your contract. That corner of the industry has drawn attorney general attention in several states. If you want that answered properly, ask a Florida consumer attorney — not a solar company, and not us.
Reporting around the asset sale indicated that production guarantees were not treated the same as the payment obligations, and many homeowners have found them difficult or impossible to enforce. Read your own agreement and confirm directly with your current servicer in writing. Either way the practical takeaway is the same: nobody is watching your production for you anymore, so watch it yourself.
It depends, and we will tell you honestly which one you are. A light film after a rainy month is usually worth a few percent and not worth paying anybody. Heavy pollen, dust crust, bird activity, mineral spotting or shaded soiling along the bottom edge is a different story and can run well into double digits in lost production. That is precisely why the inspection is a separate paid service instead of a free sales visit. We get paid to tell you the truth, including when the truth is that your panels are fine.
They come off before the roof work and go back on after — a coordinated job called an R&R. Very common right now, and usually it is not the solar that scares them — it is the missing paperwork. Documentation of what is up there, what condition it is in, and what the equipment actually is tends to settle a lot of it. Our inspection report is built to be handed to a buyer, an inspector or a lender. It is not a legal opinion about the contract transfer, and you will still want your title company and agent handling that part.
No. We do not sell systems, we do not finance anything, and we do not take referral money from anyone who does. We clean, inspect, document, and remove and reinstall panels. That is the whole business.
